IVA.CO.UK DEBT DEBATE: 2ND MAY 2008

The Debt Debate on Friday 2nd May for IVA.co.uk was a huge success and was attended by a large audience of Insolvency Practitioners, Creditors, Journalists, Industry Experts, Students and Forum Members.
As ever, the debate was set to be a controversial event in light of the current economic climate and there were notable comments about regulation of all debt solutions, including IVA’s, Bankruptcy and Debt Management Programmes.

The debate was chaired by:

- Peter Hobday
Peter Hobday has 14 years of experience in broadcasting including presenting the Radio Four flagship programme "Today", being the anchor man for the award winning "Money Programme" and was also one of the original presenters of the much respected current affairs programme "Newsnight".

The expert panel included:

Bill Burch joined the Insolvency Service in 1993 as an insolvency examiner working for OR Gloucester and then ACCA in 2002 as a Compliance Officer. In July 2005 he left ACCA to set up Compliance On Call. Compliance On Call was set up with one aim in mind, to become the UK’s leading insolvency compliance service provider within 5 years.
Melanie Giles, an Insolvency Practitioner with over 20 years experience.

Mark Allen is a partner at Grant Thornton. He is responsible for the National IVA service line and is a chartered accountant.

Stuart Hopewell FICM is Chairman of the Institute of Credit Management (ICM), Stuart has been involved in credit for over 30 years and has served on a wide range of committees and working parties.
Gill Hankey is a Director of the Bankruptcy Advisory Service Limited and has just been recently awarded an M.B.E on the New Years Honours List 2008. Gill is also a member of R3 and the Insolvency Service National Consumer User Group.
Heather Greig-Smith is editor of Credit Today, the magazine for the commercial and consumer credit industry. She joined the magazine as deputy editor in 2006 from commercial property magazine Property Week.
