hi zeb thanks for that, hopefully i can change my pay and it wont be an issue. i cant believe how quick they were iva only agreed on 27/2. as i said they havent even sent me a letter. there is also about £400 in there to pay for food and petrol etc until payday. it was lucky the bank manager allowd us to take the only savings we have out of our savings account. otherwise how would i feed a family of 5 for the next 3 weeks

thanks

bic, I hope you get NatWest sorted tomorrow, let us know how you get on.

frankey - Co-op and Yorkshire Bank come highly recommended.

But you're not bankrupt! Depending on what the outcome of the phone call is, I think I would be inclined to go down to my local branch armed with my chairmans report and refuse to budge until someone saw me.

Alternatively, if you are on the Insolvency Register now, then when whoever rings up, get them to check and it should say IVA on there.

I've heard before that Natwest view BR and IVAs the same.

Hopefully you'll hear something soon x

I do wish people wouldn't do that, and I think it's totally wrong of Natwest to just freeze accounts without prior notice.

Am I right in thinking that in BR the OR has to tell the bank to unfreeze the account?

If so, and you're not BR, who is going to tell them? Will they listen to the IP?

The OR can tell the bank they have no interest in the account, but if the bank doesn't want you as a customer it doesn't make any difference, they will freeze the account anyway.

So how can you get it unfrozen then? They can't take your money as you are in an IVA, and it is yours so they should just give it you back and close the account.

Even HSBC, who close accounts of people in IVA's, give you notice that they are going to close the account.
I've got a Basic Bank Account with HSBC, i.e. no cheque book, no debit card and no overdraft facility, just an ATM Service Card and a Paying-in Book.

Would this account be safe - it's a new fresh account that I was advised to open up when I started applying for an IVA

My Creditors Meeting is tomorrow, but HSBC are not one of my creditors.

They do have a habit of closing accounts, even if they were not one of your creditors. They don't like IVA's, and I believe they check the Insolvency Register and will normally write to you to tell you they are closing the account. First Direct are the same.

Have you tried the Co-op or Yorkshire Bank? They are very sympathetic to IVA's and you can have a Visa Electron card with them, not just a cashpoint card.
