Hi foster,

That's really nice of your mum. You should let your IP know just in case they are under the impression that your old car has any value, but otherwise there shouldn't be an issue.

I agree with Mel- at first glance an IVA would seem like a good alternative and I would talk to a few IVA companies to see what they can do for you.

Was the IVA option visited when you first received advice? What were the reasons for discounting it first time around?

Hi theskeen and welcome. When you say struggling, have you been managing in discomfort, or have you been making cuts to make ends meet or borrowing small amounts from friends to get by? I usually don't recommend variations for people unless they have a problem, because unless your creditors feel tha...

Hi Drake and welcome. I'm sure that the amount (£16k) was based on what was affordable rather than just what the IP felt was required. They have a responsibility to make sure that the amount is affordable, but no real need to hold the funds if it makes you uncomfortable. The £1,000 they have mention...

Hi Budgie and welcome! I'm glad that your IP is investigating the matter properly, and good luck. If you have unexpected expenditure to deal with then you should mention this to your IP, as your creditors may well be open to a variation. It makes absolutely no sense to require that the money is paid...

Hi Adam, Yes you can, in many circumstances. You need to discuss this with your IP. In most instances your IP will need to write to your creditors to request that the IVA is finished early. However, if you are paying the full amount due and the funds are not from a windfall or inheritance then depen...

Hi Nicky and welcome,

You're right to ask questions - they are very different kinds of plan and it depends on what you need.

How much can you reliably afford each month? Do your outgoings exceed your income?

To be told that an IVA is not an option is completely inaccurate - that of course is a decision for creditors to make. That's key, and whether you are visiting a charity or a private debt management organisation you must ensure that you're getting the right advice. It's always worth getting a coupl...

Hi Gillian, Freecycle is a great idea from kazzafunk - I got an old TV and a table that way. Give your IVA company a call to make sure they get on it straight away. If you're not already in arrears then you may not even need to ask your creditors for permission... a quick phonecall will set your min...

Hi howardmoon,

You will get a completion report and certificate of completion from Freeman Jones, and also a breakdown of what was paid to each creditor. Your creditors will not need to contact you.

Once you have the certificate of completion then your IVA is finished.

Hi Martin,

Your IP will need to look at your income and expenditure for the simple reason that you may be sharing costs. However, as long as she can pay her share of the household expenses there should be no need to check her income or ask her any questions.

Congratulations!

Hi AdC12 and welcome, It would depend on your creditors I'm afraid - some will allow school fees as expenditure and others can be difficult. You should talk to your IP and see what they say, and expect to propose a variation to your IVA before you get a definite answer. How much are the school fees,...

Mel is right - unless this amount was stipulated in your proposal then your creditors will probably limit it.

also we were going to claim PPI back on all out major debt mainly the bank he told us if we were in an IVA all money sucessfully claimed would go straight into the IVA is this correct (worth doing)? That's more or less the gist of it - if the creditor who charged PPI has a debt included in the IVA ...
