Hi and welcome,

All income has to be declared but it may be that some can be offset for the disabilities but do speak to your IP.

Just a bit confused as it is classed as a medical pension and we have been told before that payments received to compensate for loss of earnings don't get classed as income.

Compensation for loss of earnings are counted as income.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

(it's compensation for pain and suffering that is usually excluded)

His, assumedly, DLA or PIP payment should be included, but it should also be 100% offset as an expense, so that it is completely neutral. If that is not the case, then you need to ask the question as to why not.

But in a lot of cases it doesn't get offset.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.

The only answer to that, in terms of IVA, is to name and shame any organisation that follows that practice on here, so that other people can make up their mind as to whether to employ that firm or firms. I do not know of any firm that doesn't do that though.

I do know of one or two organisations that do not automatically 100% offset when looking at DMP's, but to my mind, although they would defend their own stance on that, then that is just as bad.

The company (as it was) is no longer trading and it would be unfair to say anything else.

It may also be that it reflected a period in time when it was possibly a more common practice (2011).

Given that this subject comes up on a semi-regular basis I think this may still be a common occurrence.

I would stress that getting PiP is far harder than getting DLA (you will know this based on what you do) and it should be seen by IVA companies that the issues faced by that individual are significant and has a direct cost pressure on their day to day living.
