Right, I have spoken to Grant Thornton and explained that I'm now single etc and I have to go on income support. I was told that my iva isn't just mine, it's a joint one with my ex - I thought you couldn't have a joint iva. So I was asked if my ex could pay the payments himself to which I said probably not the full amount as his i & e will be completely different now too. So I'm being sent 2 i and e forms for us to fill out and she will let me know what happens next.

It is the correct thing for GT to do. They need to see if either or both IVAs can continue in their own right and then try and reach a way forward. Hopefully it all works out and regardless of what heppens you can get on with your life.

I didn't think there was such a thing as a joint IVA? I thought they were interlocking and could be seperated if needs be.

Thankyou Michael, I've just re read my post and it sounds like I'm being ungrateful. I'm not at all, just more confused than anything. Also I'm concerned about my I and E - I have no idea what my outgoings will be regarding food/shopping as this is only my first week of being single. Also my 3 year old is in school and I need new uniform etc. I think I'm a little overwhelmed by it all.

I agree you do not sound ungrateful and it must be a very worrying time. Speak to your case worker about the I&E and they can help you claim all of your allowances and then see if you can afford to continue on.

The most important thing is your little boy so if the IVA has to fail and you need to petition for bankruptcy it could be the best thing.

I've got another question - how do I find out about the ins and outs of my iva. I want to know how much is left on my Iva to pay off to see if I can offer a f + f rather than have to go bankrupt (my mum has said she'll help depending on the amount left obviously)

Kelse you really do have a lot going on in your life, I would certainly be in direct contact with your IP and talking to him/her about the situation.

I promise it will work out for you in the end these things do but in the interim can be hard, hate chat with your IP as Melanie suggests and try and get a figure and if Mum can help you then that is great.

Keep in touch with the forum and all the best x

Try emailing the IP direct via this link:

you might manage to get something sorted out by going straight to the top.

Thank you. I typed gareth neill grant thornton into google and it gave me a page about gareth and the firm with a phone number and e-mail address. I will try this today. I really want this seperated from my ex - he is becoming (even more) awkward at the minute unfortunately.

Hopefully you can get in touch with someone today about it. It really does need sorting and you need those IVA's seperating.

Thank you so much Melanie, that's got me teary too. I spoke to Gareth earlier and he said for both of us to do an I&E form and see what can be done. If the ex can pay what he can and I can pay something then we can continue without seperating the Iva's. I've spoken to the ex and said this and his reply was "whatever, do what you want". I feel like banging my head against a brick wall. I'm really trying to get something sorted. I forgot to ask about moneys paid in and F&F.

Kelse it's frustrating and your ex's attitude isn't helping but my hubby would be the same I know he would. I hope you get this sorted you've a lot on your plate right now and keep posting for support/advice.

Glad you had a chat with Gareth - he is a lovely chap, which is more than can be said for your ex-partner. What a rotter!

Hi Melanie, yes Gareth was lovely, and to my surprise I didn't feel nervous speaking to him (like I did with Accuma). I told the ex he needed to fill out a new I&E and the sooner the better - to which I was snarled at and told he doesn't know his I&E yet so what do I expect him to do. I'm worried that he won't do it and they'll both fail because of him. I'm still thinking of getting a F&F figure to see if I can do that and then on his own head be it.
