Can I set up my own company while waiting for completion certificate ?

Can I set up my own company for contract work purposes I entered into an IVA in 2006 and made the requested 60 monthly payments but the IVA is still not closed

There should be no problem but check with your IP. Put pressure on your IP to close the file as there can be problems with a company if a director is officially insolvent.

Being in an iva does not preclude you from being a company director.

Speak to a local accountant about setting up your own Ltd company.

You mention 'contracting', if so, are you proposing working under an umbrella arrangement via an agency? If so, just be up front about your iva. If it's a problem, just set up your own company.
My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.

I cannot see any reason why you cannot now set up a limited company.
