Hi. I have finished all payments of an IVA in April so obviously just waiting for my certificate of completion.

In the meantime I am trying to find the best way(if at all possible) to obtain a mortgage and was after any help or advice if possible.

My bank has said that I have to wait a minimum of 6 years (Barclays) . The application would be if it helped, a joint one and we have a reasonable deposit . Just wondering if there's anything out there?

Many thanks for any help.

James

If the IVA started more than 6 years ago your credit file should be pretty clear once your name comes off the register. This could be what the bank means and not six years from the end. I know Shaun Vickery of Select has got people mortgages as has Ryan but normally the six years need to have passed from when the IVA started.

Congratulations on completing your IVA. In terms of a mortgage, many lenders do insist on 6 years AFTER the IVA has been registered. In fact some won't ever lend to someone who has been in an IVA. Ridiculous I know, but there you are! Indeed some unwittingly favour ex-bankrupts to ex-IVA customers! That said, depending on the rest of your circumstances and the deposit you have available, it's quite possible that a lender would consider your application. They all have individual criteria.
