Hi,

Barclaycard/Capital One and MBNA were all in my IVA and all accepted me for accounts less than 2 years after IVA completion.

did you get any promotional offers like balance transfers etc?

Promotional rates with MBNA and Barclaycard.

In fact MBNA basically gave me 0% for 2 years on balance transfers/cash purchases and money transfers to my bank account. (with a nice credit limit of £2600)

I've recently reapplied to mbna for a credit card but has been referred!!.
I'm hoping this will be accepted however as I defaulted with them some years ago, I have a feeling this will not be the case.
I just thought I would add this to my original post in case anyone else is thinking of doing the same. I will post any news as soon as I find out.

I don't understand why anyone would apply for a credit card after going through an iva i finnished mine in 11 and got my cc in 12, i wont even have a currant account, it even seems odd to me to be able to use any atm as announced by my bank a couple of weeks go, as since 06 i have only been able to use one atm with my basic account.

Unfortunately sometimes a credit card is a necessity. When we went to the U.S. last year we needed one for car hire, petrol and the hotel.

Tesco was one of my creditors and I now have a credit card with them.

I think sometimes it helps build your credit rating too so it's good to have one to get back into main stream. I've not got a full current account with NatWest and their purple card instead of the blue and a credit card which is used and paid off each month.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Just a quick update for you all..
I completely forgot to respond but the following morning of writing the above post I got a response welcoming me to MBNA and that my credit limit will be £5,600. I have also been given zero percent for 18 months which is amazing. I would suggest anyone worried about applying (like I was) to look into a bank which offers a "soft search" which will not show on your credit files if the application is declined!..
Good Luck to anyone else who is thinking of applying.

How would you know who does a soft search?

Hi Recovering, If you look on the martin Lewis website there are certain cards which will do this. if you type in Eligibility checker or look on the top left of the page under credit cards.. you will find advice, its a very useful site actually.
You can also type it in on Google. Give it a go as it doesn't effect your credit files and will give you a certain percentage of a chance to be accepted without having to do the application for it which obviously shows on your files. I did this with Nationwide and was successful. since trying it out twice I have received my credit files and although it shows on MY files it doesn't allow other creditors to see it. Good Luck![:)]

Hi Struzzo, I finished my iva in July 2013 and applied for my Nationwide card in November the same year, I believe they can do a soft search with loans there too if you ask them in the branch (not online). I have been offered two credit limit increases since opening this card although I declined on both occasions.
At least doing a soft search wont effect your credit files if you are unsuccessful.
