Those of you in an IVA and forced to use a basic account will be happy with today's news.

Sorry it's probably the wrong place for this but still.

"Good news - you can now use any UK cash machine to withdraw cash or check your balance, in addition to RBS, NW or Tesco."

A step forward and hoping they keep accepting people with an IVA for a current account. I've always been with them and can't fault their service.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I'm not impressed with Natwest as they don't seem to believe in second chances. I was looking to change my bank account and one of the questions was 'have you ever been bankrupt?' When I answered yes I was told I couldn't go any further. It doesn't mention IVAs so the majority on here should be ok but, considering Natwest was bailed out by the taxpayer, I think it's pretty poor they discriminate.

Halifax ask have you ever been in an arrangements with your creditors...I stopped my application at that point.

Could do with another bank account (mr Ivamess and I use them like piggy banks to divide up the cash). Might give Natwest a go.

Rickne,
can I ask where you found this info from as the Natwest site is still saying RBS, Ulster or Tesco ATM's for the basic account. I havent actually tried my card anywhere else as I am scared another ATM would eat it :-) so don't know if it is just that the website needs updating.

I put a search in on their website for basic accounts and all I got up was regarding basic accounts having restricted ATM access.

Hi Peejayel, information is above. Unless they didn't implement the change.

We opened an account with NatWest just before entering IVA can honestly say our local branch is great the staff are really friendly, the service second to none and we have an account with overdraft facility, cheque book and no charges for this. We were with Barclays for over 25 years and never received this level of service from the staff in our local branch they were only ever interested in selling us something or increasing our loan and overdraft

I literally just received a text. I knew it was a trusted number as had had appointments I'd booked with them come through the same number.

I'm with welshwiz on the customer service, our local branch is the same, always greet me by name and I'm sure when I had the basic account they knew why but was never judged and treated the same as the next person in the never very long queue. Can't fault them and they will upgrade your account post IVA. I've a contactless purple card now not that I've ever used it as a contacless payment card.

I had a natwest account before entering an IVA but as soon as the process started, they shut down my account, cancelled all my direct debits and kept the money that was in the account - all without any notice that they would do this. I therefore do not have a very high opinion of them. They were one of my creditors though whether this makes a difference or not.
IVA started Jan 2012
Last payment made June 2014 @100p
Completion certificate received Sept 2014

Hi Urbanfox

All banks do this, you should have been told to open a new account with a different bank, get wait until salary goes in transfer direct debits then start IVA process. We were told to do this so we had no problem with a months direct debits with no salary to cover it.
