Hello, i have been in an IVA now for 3 1/2 Years. never missed a payment and I am considering leaving my Job as i am not happy any more ( 18 years in the same place! ) and i want to go self employed (IT & Software background online) This is sector i currently work in 9 - 5.

What is the best option for me ? My outstanding balance is just over £5000.

Do i stay put for the last 18 months.. go self employed..Or do i put a settlement offer to the IP ?

Thanks :)

If you can somehow make a settlement offer, get your CC and then go self employed that would be best.

It then upons up other opportunities going forward.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.

The answers to these questions depend on many more things than those outlined here. Do you have access to £4 or 5 K for a settlement ? Do you think self employment will support the IVA for the next 18 months ?

Personally, all other things being equal, I would tough it out and get the IVA done and dusted whilst setting up a part time self employed business. 18 months will pass quite quickly in reality.

Have to disagree with Foggy but that is only because I am self employed in a market where I see that there are opportunities developing for people of your skills.

Part time is rarely an option and they frequently want someone to start tomorrow.

Also, there are certain contract opportunities you cannot do whilst in an IVA e.g. police, banks etc.

I was talking personally and generally --- I have neither the brain power, nor will power, to play with "things digital" :-)

As I said, there are many more things to consider than revealed in the post.

Hello

I can get my hands on around £3500 > 4k

I would not need to worry about getting contract with other businesses as most of the work i will be doing is selling software i've coded and designed online.

Working from home and not having much outgoings ( as i rent a house cheap off parents & mrs is on a 40k plus job )

I'd love to get it paid off early so i can give 100% earnings straight to bank / HRMC without having to worry about paying off the IVA over the last 18 months.

If i was to talk to my IP, and tell them that i could get a payment to them, do they usually except offers if i was to state i want to go self employed ?

Cheers

Matt

If you have a sympathetic IP they can be of great help in getting settlements accepted. It is always worth running it past them.
