I paid off my iva early about 3 years ago now, making it a total of 5 years since it started. Is it possible to get a decent mortgage even with this dreadful credit history?

Yes it is! Use one of the forum experts Ryan or Shaun. Both are mortgage experts in helping people like us gain mortgages after their ivas.
I can personally vouch for Ryan at Zebra who has gained two mortgages at competitive rates in the last five years.

Contacted details for both can be found under ask the experts or the members button and A-Z of members list.

To get the best deals you will likely have to wait until six years have passed from the beginning of the IVA. However it is worth speaking to one of the experts as you could find out what you need to do and be ready when the time comes.

Hi Emma.2-
As it has been cleared over 3 yrs, I actually think I may have an option for you, even though it still will show on your credit report, and at a competitive interest rate.
Please get in contact at the website below saying we have spoken on the Forum and I will see if this is viable for you

I recently got a mainstream mortgage without difficulty. My credit rating was excellent after the six years was up and I had checked with all three cra's to make sure that there were no erroneous defaults still registered. Then I did a Google search on all the main banks mortgaging lending terms and conditions. They all had simple documents which included a section on how they assessed people with current/past IVA's or bankruptcies and in my case I found a couple that just used regular credit checks for IVA's more than 6 years old. I applied in the usual way and was accepted without any deceit or dihonesty on my part, so from my perspective the research was time well spent. One other point that I discovered is that some lenders only do an initial soft credit check which does not appear on your credit file, it's worth understanding which type of search the lenders do if you end up approaching a few, to avoid messing up your credit file with extra searches!
