I have been offered two separate IVAs but they were both quoted by companies that
A) I've never heard of and
B) cold called me on my mobile.
How do I know who to trust and who is after my identity?
Where can I get an IVA from a company I know I can trust?

Have a search on some of the threads mentioned on here, you will soon see which ones are decent and which to avoid.

One or two IP's themselves post on here too.

Avoid ones that cold call you and only go with ones you have spoken to, have answered all your questions and you are comfortable with. It will be a 5 or 6 year arrangement you are in ... you need reassurance they will be with you all the way and support you when needed ... as well as an IP you can actually speak to rather then just a call centre staff.

Good luck.

Avoid the "factories" like the plague -- all well and good when the going is smooth ... but cannot sort out the slightest glitch and deny access to the IP.

A good place to start would be Vincent Bond, who will collate your information and then pass you to one of their panel of companies. Then the smaller, more individual focused firms, like Lisa's or McCambridge Duffy are worth a chat to.

Always chat to a couple to see who you feel most comfortable with.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Hi and welcome,

I would never recommend going with a firm that cold called you.

You could ring Andy Davie/Vincent Bond (details under the expert link on the left hand side of the page) for some free advice.

Shop around and go with a company that you approach.
IVA started March 2011, Completed March 2016 and certificate issued 11 days after final payment. It was not always easy but then some of the best decisions aren't.

An IVA is a fabulous tool in the ongoing fight against debt, and whilst all IVA's carry fees regardless of who proposes them, speak to 2 or 3 organisations, including at least 1 charity. That way, you should at least get a few options/opinions to consider.

Make sure you approach a licensed Insolvency practitioner firm rather than a firm that is going to act as a middle man.

You can check whether they are licesed here by the IP name:

https://www.gov.uk/find-an-insolvency-practitioner

Personally I would look for one in your local area and make an appointment to meet the IP in person then decide whether you feel you can work with them for the duration of the IVA.
I'm a licensed IP with 16+ yrs at Neville & Co covering the South West area. I have a YouTube channel with advisory videos on here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMPTTu ... Z5k9ZcC2MA http://www.nevilleco.co.uk 01752 786800 Lisa@nevilleco.co.uk
