Hi I have been in an iva for 3 years and all going well all payments have been made. I am self employed and have plenty of work at the moment. The issue I have is that I drive around 250 miles a week for work and my van need replacing. How do I go about this as I wont be accepted for finance to buy or indeed finance to lease a van, so its a catch 22 situation. If I cant get another van(because in an iva) then I cannot work that means no money to carry on with my iva.

Hi,

Have you thought about asking for a payment break so you can get a cheap van?

I am afraid many of us have had to limp along on "ebay" specials for the duration. I agree with Kallis - try to negotiate a payment break to get a small sum together for a modest "make do".
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Some people in IVAs have leased vehicles in the past or a family member has obtained finance for them. Speak to your IP as you need a vehicle.

I'm afraid I cant jog along with any old tatty van from e-bay as my work requires a smart vehicle at all times. Besides as I have found out to my cost in the past a high mileage van can cost more in the long run with all sorts of problems. Maybe talk to the ip or consider asking my partner if she will take on a lease agreement or finance and I pay it.

Sounds like you might need a payment break. Your partner should be wary about signing herself up to a credit agreement as this will affect her personally.

Depends on how strong your relationship is - it is certainly a possibility.
