I have had a representative from Creditfix visit this evening and now I don't know if I have made a mistake? He took all information, said it would cost 2 monthly charges upfront then they take their fees from the creditors as they go. I have a feeling something isn't right. Can I cancel with them, they haven't done anything with my information yet, and then search for a better firm. I honestly have the feeling that I have made a mistake.

If in doubt try again as the saying goes ....you have the right to withdraw as your creditors meeting has yet to be called ..... get two or three IPs advice before deciding who to use. Www.iva.com provides a number of recommended companies.

Whatever the "whys and wherefors" it is very important that you feel comfortable with your choice, five years or so can be a very long time with the wrong company. Even if you go back to your first contact, always have a chat with a couple, few, or as many as needed, companies to see who you gel with and like how they work.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Personally I would trust your instincts and if it doesn't feel right look around and get advice from other firms. There are many great firms that don't charge upfront fees and like foggy says, it's important that you feel happy in your choice as an Iva is a long time.

Also remember that even if you choose an IVA company you feel happy with, you can be sold on to one without any choice. But we will avoid going any further down that road on this thread!

Hi

It is unusual to charge fees before the IVA is agreed

If you feel uncomfortable then use another IVA provider, you should be free to cancel and move on

Have they taken any debit card details from you ?

I agree with others you have to feel as confident as possible with your chosen IP.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Thank you all for your advice. This morning I received a call from Vincent Bond, all thanks to this site, and I have had everything explained to me. I've cancelled with Creditfix, as an IVA is absolutely the wrong thing for us right now, and we're starting a DMP with a view to changing to an IVA if needed at any point.

WHat a relief. I think my instincts were right.

I really appreciate all of your advice, thank you.

Creditfix took my debit card details with a view to charging my card on the 27th, they've said this has been cancelled now but I'm cancelling my card too as I have read some horror stories.

I'm so glad this forum was here, I'll be reading it much more in future :)

Good luck with the DMP :-)

Did Creditfix not explain all of the alternative options with you ?

I did my research before entering into my IVA with PJG and now ended up with Creditfix by default and any search I have done on this company they do not get good reviews . Like you ridingthestorm I am not looking forward to my 1st review, and a bit angry what has happened.

They only mentioned the IVA, a BRO and a bankruptcy, he said the IVA was the only route for us to take.

He was wrong!

What they say: “An IVA is the correct, moral option/route for you”

What they mean: “An IVA is best for you as we get our fees out of it!”

Says it all....the man who came out last night just called me. I told him my dad was paying my debts off (a lie to get rid of him) but he said, you'd be better off taking his money and using it for something else and still getting the IVA. ****ing arsehole. Told him no, destroy my documents and all details of my bank. He didn't sound as nice today funnily enough.
