Hello all,

I completed my IVA early over a year ago and it will remain on my credit file until October 2018. If my wife and I were to open a joint account, would this have a detrimental effect on her ability to get credit in just her name? Nothing big like a mortgage, more credit / store cards. She'd be unlikely to in any event but don't want her credit score to suffer as a result of my own.

Hi,

Until your IVA disappears from your file then it will impact on your wife getting a joint account. With her own applications then she would be fine.

Thanks for the reply. So to clarify; if we had a joint bank account she would still be able to apply for credit in just her name without my IVA effecting the application?

Hi,

If you had a joint account then your IVA would affect her application.

It is best that you keep separate accounts until the end of the IVA.
