Looking for a company to ask advice

Dear all

We completed an IVA 5 years ago but are back to being in a mess again due to difficult circumstances with our children. Looking for advise from anyone that has done two IVA’s and trying to find a good recommended company we can send our figures to so we can get some advise about what would be possible and if we qualify. I have a horrible feeling we don’t qualify as we don’t have a high enough income but desperately need some help. The company we used before don’t seem to be around anymore, we used The IVA Advice Company last time.

Hi,
Do you have any assets? Is BR or a DRO an option.

Hi

Have you explored all other options already or have you already determined that an IVA is the best option?

It's sensible to show around and ultimately speak to an IP that you feel comfortable with.

Make sure they are licensed.

No assets but rent a property and have car on HP, both of which we can’t change as we have two children with autism. Also don’t want their DLA money to be affected, we are currently using it as my salary top up and to pay for the car.

I haven’t contacted any companies yet, don’t know where to start and don’t know if we have any other options. I am trying to find an evening job to boost my salary as I can’t work in the day as my daughter has been out of school since December and now I have to drive her to an autism hub for an hour a day about 30 mins away. Keeping everything the same for them is really important.

Any suggestions? I don’t even know much about other options

I would suggest chatting to a smaller firm, who will take your individual circumstances into consideration and will also present you with the alternative solutions for you to give due consideration to. I would also suggest chatting to more than one, as you need to find someone you are comfortable to work with for 5 years.
I cannot recommend a particular firm, but, hopefully, some member will share their own experiences with you. The firm I was with no longer trades under their old name.
However, Lisa, who has replied above could be a candidate, as could McCambridge Duffy as well as the forum sponsors themselves.
Reading through the links to the left will give you more background on all options.

How much are your debts and how are the split (i.e sole or joint) between you and your partner?

Your problem may be with your cars - do you have motability at all? Might be worth looking at?

No my children have high care not high rate motability. I would not be able get them to all the various appointments and daily trip to a specialist hub if I didn’t have the car. They are unable to travel on public transport due to anxiety issues. My son is provided with a special bus to and from school but my daughter isn’t. We would trapped a lot at home without a car.

Does anyone know what sort of basic bank account is best to go for if you go bankrupt or do a DRO or an IVA?

Many of us used the Co-Op Cashminder accounts in our IVAs with no issues.

Have you applied for motability? Our neighbour has a severely autistic son and they have motability..

I often thought we should get it but we are rated high care and low mobility. I don’t want to start messing about with that, its far too stressful and have too much on my plate to cope with trying to change that too.

Do you know if the cashminder debit card is used like a normal visa debit card and does it have contactless (not that I use contactless because its too hard to track purchases) but husband wanted to know.

It works like a normal debit card but is not contactless, however I use it with apple pay
