Hi there everyone. In a desperate google search to find info on my problem i came across your forum so i just signed up. I really hope someone can help. and maybe i can help someone else in the future too.

Here is my problem. Me and my husband are in a joint iva, taken out two years ago. Everything had been going well up until a couple of months ago. The problem began when we moved into my husbands' parents' house due to me going through a nasty depression. In the house we lived in prior to this we were receiving housing benefit. Out of necessity we had to claim as my husband is self employed and is struggling to find work.
So anyway, we we moved into hubbys parents, and we wrongly assumed that we would still get some housing benefit (we were paying them rent and had a proper tenancy agreement) We were wrong and last week we were told that we will get nothing for the time we lived there. We have now moved back into our own house. Resulting from the time we had no housing benefit coming in and also no backpayment due, we are 2 months behind on our iva.
What is strange is our i.p hasn't contacted us about this. The other week they sent us a letter about our annual review but nothing about being behind.
So my question is, what is going to happen now? I am paying the iva regularly again from the next payment but what happens about those 2 payments we missed? I feel so stupid in letting this happen when things had been going so well before.

thanks for getting this far, and for any advice you could give.

AS A BIT OF ADDITIONAL INFO, WE MOVED INTO OUR NEW HOUSE BUT ARE STILL NOT ENTITLED TO HOUSING BENEFIT AS MY HUSBAND HAS JUST SIGNED A TWO YEAR CONTRACT FOR NEW WORK. SO THERE WILL BE NO BACKPAYMENT DUE FOR THIS HOUSE EITHER. OTHERWISE I COULD PAY THE 2 MONTHS WE MISSED OUT OF THAT. I AM NOT COMPLAINING, I HATE BEING ON BENEFITS (EVEN THOUGH WE ARE BETTER OFF ON THEM!)
2 YEARS DOWN, NOT FEELING VERY POSITIVE....

Hi and welcome to the forum, I would contact your IP direct without delay and explain your situation to them. Which company are you with? I'm just wondering if they are members of the forum and could advise you directly?

Once you've explained the situation hopefully a way forward can be found, I wouldn't leave it any longer as after 3 months missed payments your IVA could potentially fail.

All the best. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Hi and welcome from me as well.

I agree with Lesley, speak to your IP as soon as possible. It might be possible to pay a little extra each month to bring the arrears down, or else to extend they IVA by a couple of months.

Good luck, I'm sure your IP will be able to help x
