Will AAT accept me if I have an IVA that was £24k at the beginning ??? I have had the Iva for 2 years now and it will last 5 in total endind May 2013, never missed a payment and everything is up to date.
I have started college last week , and I wasnt aware this would be a problem until the tutor advised us. I have spoken to AAT and they have asked me to send in a letter explaining which I have done , but Im worried now ?????

Hi Victoria, I am part qualified AAT Intermediate level and I can assure you having an IVA will not affect your studies, stick with your IVA and you will be just fine, you have no reason to be concerned at all.

I sent in my forms along with a letter explaining my situation , Ive had an email today stating the compliance team are looking at this and it can take up to 6 weeks for a reply as to whether or not I can be a member. I know Im going on but my worry is that Im in college now just started my first year and if they knock me back then it will just be a waste. Is this normal , Phil can you help on this ???

Just this very morning I have had a part qualified accountant accepted onto an IVA so there is no "blanket ban" as it were, and I am sure you will be fine. Must be very frustrating for you though having to wait such a long time to have it confirmed for you.

Regards.

Ive already been accepted onto my iva two years ago , Im just more concerned about AAT accepting me as Ive already started college and did not realise this would be an issue until I started.

Hi victoriaplum

I am also studying towards the AAT qualification and in my final year. Next year I will start university (depending on this year's exam results) for a CIMA qualification.

My IVA was accepted back in May and I have had no issues with my AAT membership whatsoever. In fact I have just renewed my membership so any credit/personal checks carried out would show I am in an IVA.

The only time it will be an issue is if you are made bankrupt. With any professional qualification, you cannot practice in bankruptcy.

Good luck with your first year studies.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Im hoping its not a problem then , I have just started my first year AAT , and they have just asked me for some information regarding it which I have sent in and they are now reviewing it. I was just wondering if the amount of my iva may be a factor ??? It is just an iva and ive never been bankrupt so hopefully should be ok , Im such a worrier though , thanks again.

When I first registered with AAT they only asked if I had ever been made bankrupt which I clearly haven't, my IVA started in May so i've been registered with AAT a couple of years now. When I renewed this years membership I was never asked about it but I did do it online but they must credit check their members.

When I first entered into my IVA my IP did explain to me that it would never be a problem for me therefore I'm surprised yours hasn't.

You will be fine and do not need to worry.
