If you enter something formal, like an IVA ... well, it could be two interlocking IVA's if you have joint debts .... you might be linked for 5 or 6 years.
Do you own a house ? If not and your jobs allow, maybe bankruptcy could work.
Or, for more modest debts, a debt management plan -- informal and creditors often freeze interest.

Everything really depends upon the whole picture .... How much debt, joint or sole, property ownership, living arrangements (and therefore expenses) etc. etc.

You would be best served speaking to a couple of IVA providers in detail, with no obligation.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

It's difficult to give advice without knowing your full circumstances and financial picture.

As Foggy says you should each seek independent advice. I'd be happy to chat to you.
