I had an Iva which was fully completed and complied with through Debt Free Direct. I then was contacted by RBS saying that they owed me money due to loan saying they didn’t fully meet the requirements and that they weren’t entitled to charge interest/fees on the loan at certain times. It continued to say the total over paid interest was 1313.96 but my refund was 139.21. Stating that the remaining has been used to reduce the outstanding balance in the loan to zero. What are they on about???? It seems all wrong, all this was included in the Iva surely they can’t take money after the event?

In theory, no, they shouldn't offset a loan which has been officially written off ..... but, they do try it and, I imagine, get away with it. You can try to argue the point first, then pass copies on to the Ombudsman for him to consider.
