I have just done exactly what you have decided to do - I have all of my money in jars for the different things I need. I have just started my IVA (1st payment next week!) so I want to make sure I start as I mean to go on!
I have put aside money for yearly items and labelled envelopes with 'Car Tax' etc and I have written on the date and how much I've put in and I am going to do this every month.
Things might change as I get used to this, but seems like we are following the 'newbie' thing and getting well prepared lol
Good luck with the next few weeks. I paid a few things over the phone while waiting for my IVA to go through and it wasn't a problem.
Hey I have a jar collection buddy! hehe.
To be honest it really suits my perfectionism so I can see me doing this for years!. Glad your IVA went through ok, praying it will all be ok for us. Should only be this month we have to pay utilities etc over the phone, but glad to hear its acceptable [:D]

When I cancelled my DD's when I started my DMP before the IVA, the tv licence just missed a month divided it up over the following few months, Water and C Tax were paid over the phone.

It is amazing how reliant we are on DD's these days I was getting into a right panic about how to pay stuff forgetting how we did it before DD's were around [:D][:D]

I think that is a great idea about jars, although I tend to just draw £50 a week out of the bank every Sunday morning to pay for food and the rest is left for DD's etc and to pay motor stuff. Anything over after the food shopping on a Saturday night goes into an envelope upstairs for a treat occasionally.
This week we had a whole £5. it helped that I had lunches provided at work 2 days running (the joys of a H and S audit) and we had a few meals out of the freezer. [:D]
If life is what you make it, I must have been in a strange mood when I made mine

Hi

We have just opened our Co-op basic account, received cards, but no pin numbers yet. We are also in the same situation as you, we have got a Natwest account, and tomorrow I am removing all the money from that account to put with the Co-op. I am also worried about bounced direct debits, especially for the mortgage, but I think I will just call the mortgage company and say that the Natwest account is no longer being used, and for this month offer to pay over the phone, and give them new account details of the co-op for next month. We also bank with Barclays, and hold a Barclay Credit Card, which is one off the creditors, and have now started to receive letters and calls from them demanding the minimum payment. They have quoted in there most recent letter if I do not make a payment and if I hold a Barclays current account then they will automatically take the money from that account. Well they can try, I had £50 in there but now have emptied the accound just leaving the overdraft.!!!
Barclaycard and Creation Finance have been the worse creditors for me so far!!. Get your money out of Natwest, just incase.!!!
Regards
Sam x

Hi there jar collection buddy! I am a perfectionist too and since my IVA went through I have been busy preparing for our 'new start'! I have gone slightly mad though and have thoroughly re-arranged my house and filing systems to accomodate my jars!!! I feel like I have a new lease of life since our IVA was approved after months stress. The very best of luck for your IVA - I'm sure it will work out fine [:)]

I have a tin you have to open with a can opener and it's nearly full now but only with 2p's, 1p's, 5p's, 10p's etc. nothing above a 20p, I call it my holiday fund but doubt I'm going to get far but dreams keep me going x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I save 5p, 2p and 1p coins in bags. Every so often I take them to a Coinstar machine. I know it costs me, but I can't be bothered to stand in a queue at the bank and I know I will never have enough money to take us anywhere!

I too collect coins and bag them up to pay back into my bank account.

I have been doing this for about two years.

I refuse to use Coinstar machines because I have learnt to despise paying fees unless absolutely necessary.

I don't mind paying the fees. I would rather pay a few pence than stand in a queue at the bank.

Hey! Reckon we could get quite a good club going....jar collections, money tins!
So weird, you sound just like me!!! I have a junk cupboard in my kitchen I have kept meaning to clear it out and use it for what its supposed to be used for ie: kitchen stuff, but its now housing my jars nicely! Opened the door earlier to see the very bold black marker pen labels staring at me. Of course being Mrs Paranoid, I am now worried someone will break in!. Least of my concerns I guess, however I wil be extra careful not to leave anything unlocked!

On another note, I have just had my first ask for a pay up! Email from my catalogue, my payment was due seven days ago and I shoud pay it now. Argghh, do I call them? Ignore them?
Trying to be thrifty!

ThriftyWitch that is so funny. I am paranoid about break-ins too. I keep thinking a burglar is going to come in and steal my jars! and then I will be left with nothing. I am one of lifes worriers I'm afraid - once one thing is sorted I HAVE to worry about another thing or I worry that I'm not worrying!!!!

I would call them and explain your situation. I usually bury my head in the sand and try to ignore things that are stressful. In the lead up to my IVA I answered every call and let them know my situation and made sure I phoned my creditors to explain when necessary. I sort of figured that I was in deep enough and should face it head on. I'm glad I did because it stopped me worrying about that (and I just focussed on worrrying about the creditors meeting and regretting the past that had got me into this mess!) Good luck [:)]

Hehehe...yep, only content if there a drama unfolding in the day to day for a little worrying! You know im about to go have a nightmare now, where I am wrestling a robber to the ground determined im not going to let him/her take my decommissioned jam jar with rolled up notes in off with them![:D]
Can't wait to see the person in the banks face tomorrow either, ive worked out exactly what denominations I need the money for the jars in, going to ask for a tenners worth in 50p's so I get them bloomin jars right!

I have a co-op cashminder account.I try and pay cash for my shopping because the coop are so slow at processing debit card payments over a weekend and i am so bad at writing everything down that i spend i always end up forgetting i have paid for something on my card, dont budget for it then panic when it shows up on my online banking on the wednesday. You would think i would learn by now to make a note of everything i spend.I am so frugal now after 2 years in the iva that i tour the local shops on a saturday looking for bargains so use my card in loads of places.
Iva finished !
