Hi there
We live in a council house for 6 years and my husband’s IVA started 2 months ago. But I wanted to buy a council house only on my name. The value of the house is around £45000 after the discount, I work part time and have 3 kids, and with the benefits and family support I want to buy this house and I can afford the repayment which would be around £180-£200 a month. Can anyone advice if I can get a mortgage or if council let me buy the house ? We have a joint tenancy. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Sara Smith

You would need to discuss this with the council. If you are buying it and you are paying the mortgage it should be OK from the IVA perspective.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
