As we approach Christmas, I know through experience how difficult it can be when in an iva to achieve the "norm", and have the following tips on how to manage it
- don't try to keep up with the "jones" - be yourselves
- announce to family and friends you are not sending cards this year, instead you are donating to charity - your call which charity and how much or little
- only buy gifts for the direct family, inform those others that you have decided to cut back this year
- look for opportunity in charity shops to buy new items at discounted prices
- when planning what to do over the long festive break- think about fresh air and nice long walks, take a flask with you and a few mince pies, rather than trips to the pub and coffees out
- go to get your food shop at Aldi ... veggies are down to 19p a bag according to an advert I saw yesterday, you may even have enough for a bottle of prosecco at £4 in their too
- if you have family and friends coming, ask them to bring a dish ...share the cost!
- sit and play games - a pack of cards can provide hours of fun and laughter
- treat it as "just another roast dinner" ...no need to go fancy and go all out
Spend time with family and friends is the most important thing you can do.
If you are alone at Christmas, then please consider reaching out to those community groups that are offering the chance to spend times with others.
Or if you know someone and you have a spare seat at your table ... why not invite them in too.
I hope you have a lovely Christmas and can try to enjoy the time - one bonus is that you won't get the credit card bills come January 2020!

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
We are on our own this year which suits us down to the ground. Will have to forgo walking - my balance is chronic and hubby has dodgy knees! Just as well we only have the one dog now!!

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

I also recommend for next year you look at doing online surveys - it has funded my Christmas for a good few years now.

Online surveys? I wouldn’t have a clue where to find them, but sounds great idea.
Will definitely keep to this for all year round as really helpful. It’s so appreciated to receive tips how to budget better whilst in the Iva. So thank you
You can sign up to YouGov, Toluna, Valued Opinions, just check the websites or look up online surveys on Google.
