i am waiting for bank statements so i can apply for an IVA. One of my creditors keeps ringing me for payment, and telling me that I will be charged £6000~£7000. Is this correct ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your creditors will keep trying to get money from you. The call staff are usually working on a commission basis so will say anything to make you pay.

Maybe its worth changing your number? at least it will give you a bit of head space while you sort out your IVA application.

Good luck

Are you already with a company for IVA?
IVA started Sept 09. Glad to be on the way to being debt free

Ignore the calls, the call centres will try any tactic to get money out of you. They have no idea what happens with an IVA and have no say in voting.

As Lisa says, try changing your phone number. Alternatively, refuse to confirm your details when they call and they cannot continue with the call.

Hi Steve,

As Lisa mentioned the staff calling you are more often than not paid on a commission basis so will try to get anything they can from you. I would advise the company who is chasing you to contact the company who you are entering in to the IVA with. If they still keep calling you then maybe changing your number would be a good idea. Once the IVA has been accepted then this contact will stop! It may seem a distant dream but it will stop!

I got sooooo fed up waiting for my creditors systems to update after my IVA approved and recieveing calls from them chasing money (6 months after my IVA started!!!) i used to just do silly things with them on the phone for my own entertainment, it was one way i guess of stopping it upsetting me and feeling stressed!

I would often just bark down the phone lol or answer the call then when they asked for me id say 'yeah hang on i'll get him' and leave the phone sat on the side for 20 mins then just hang up lol!

Ignore what they are saying regarding how much an IVA costs,as this comes out of contributions so in effect doesnt cost you a single penny!!!

Ignore the calls,or just answer the phone and inform them that you are proposing an IVA soon, and hang up. This wont harm your IVA's chances of approval in any way.

These calls are harassment of the highest order.
