Wonder if anyone can answer this question. Before we were in an IVA we had bought our daughter an ipod touch along with the extended warranty from argos with an argos card. This weekend she dropped it unfortunately in a puddle.

My question is can i claim on the extended warranty even though we obviously didn't finish paying off the card before the IVA.

Andy I'm not sure if this item was bought on a buy now pay later basis (it was bought last May - well before our IVA) - is the warranty still valid, won't they check to see if it has been paid, as I can not produce the card that we purchased the item with.

Do you have accidental damage cover on your contents insurance? You could claim on that if you have problems with the warranty.

Yes I think we do - however, there is a £150 excess on that and of course not to mention that insurance will go sky high in the future.

Sorry Simbel, I never thought about the excess.

That's okay Jan - that was my first thought as well, hubby advised me of the excess and then mentioned that originally when we had purchased the ipod we had opted for the extended warranty. Although now of course I am pretty sure that we did purchase it on a buy now pay later option - I don't know where this leaves us. I have one very very unhappy 12 year old now. I will try and ring the policy people tomorrow and see what they can do. Do you think I will have to tell them why I don't have the credit card anymore?

oh I think I'm beginning to panic a little again. Just the idea of having to tell someone that I in the situation that I'm in. [V]

You could always say that you transferred the balance to another card and closed the old account.

Do you think I could - wouldn't it show up if they checked on their systems?

I don't know. You could truthfully say that the account is closed now.

I rang up Argos Customer Services and they said it should be okay to take the product back to the store with the receipt and the warranty, I advised them that I no longer have the Argos credit card that it was purchased on. They said "there shouldn't be a problem as long as I had the receipt warranty and that the card had been paid off". So it looks like it won't be replaced![V]

I'd be inclined to give it a try. They may not check.
