I already have an Iva that is a year old. My husband left 18 months ago no forwarding address leaving me to pay the mortgage and all household bills. I was unable to keep up and eventually my mental health suffered and I was unable to work for 5 months. I have now accrued more debts as I was unable to pay gas, electric, council tax, mobile phone, British telecom and sky. Can I start another Iva to cover these debts? They amount to £2000
It is unlikely that these new debts could be rolled into the IVA and, in fact, the IVA might be at risk. You really need to speak to your IP. It may be possible, in the circumstances, to get a payment holiday agreed (which will be added back at the end of the IVA) and use the IVA payments in the meantime to pay off this new debt. But, as I say, this will need the co-operation of your IP.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
You will not be able to start another IVA whilst the original one is in place. (Also an IVA is not viable for £2k of creditors).
Perhaps a Debt Management Plan would work and/or you might need to negotiate a break or reduction with your IVA Supervisor to enable you to sort out the new debts but bear in mind there is a risk that you have breached the terms of the IVA in incurring 'new' debt and your IVA could fail.
