I have received a letter from the above saying that they won't be sending me any returns in the future.

Would that be because they have also sent me a letter confirming the IVA and giving me a new Self Assessment number, so in effect they have closed the old account so no more returns on that one and opened a new one for future returns?

Ta x

Hi Cath
I know that they close SA records when you are declared Bankrupt, and issue a new ref no and open a new record for you however have not heard of them doing this for people in IVA. It may be worth caling them to ask why they have done this..

Anyone? I hate ringing them as the call centre people never know what they are talking about with regard to IVAs.

Hopefully Andy will pick up on this over the weekend, or Michael next week.

Mel's away, but you could ring her office to see if they can shed any light on the matter.

It's more likely to be because they are satisfied that you do not have any additional income to declare or are liable for higher rates of tax. They may have taken this view from the contents uf the IVA proposal

Give Mel's office, or HMRC a ring. They can probably give you a definitive answer, or at least point you in the right direction.

Hi Cath,
Personally I would ring the call centre and if you don't get any sense from them you need to ask to be transferred to a technician,as they are very experienced staff and know the answers to most things.

They will give you a new self-assessment number after they have recognised the IVA - so nothing to worry about and if they don't send you a return then you can easily download one from the internet.

I'm in this situation too. Was very confusing when I got the letter saying there was no need to submit a return any more. You get a new Unique Tax Reference (10 digits, usually in two parts of five digits each) and I had to scrutinise the letters I had from HMRC to spot this subtlety

Your tax return will need to be made under this new number if you previously submitted tax returns pre-IVA. I do mine online and had to re-register for the self-assessment online (SA Online) service
Debt problems, what debt problems? I'm not in De Thames, I'm in De Nile.
