I`ve recently got a new mobile phone. I have lost some of the numbers I had stored on my old mobile, so some numbers come through as unrecognised when calls or texts are received. I got a text today saying "nice weather we`re having mate"...I replied asking who it was then got another text, "Are you at work and do you still work at the same place?".
I smelt something fishy and replied "who`s this, anyone who knows me would know I`m not in work at this time".
No reply this time so I called the number from my land line and low and behold, it went to message and I could here what sounded like a call centre environment in the background.
I haven`t ever given my mobile number to a creditor, so how has one of my creditors found it?...and it seems like I`m in for calls at work from now on, even though I work nights, and my creditors are aware of this as I included this info when I wrote to them to tell them of my IVA proposal.

"When the seagulls follow the trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea".
I doubt it'd be a creditor - I suspect the size of our debts are 'just a number' to the majority of lenders/creditors and they wouldn't bother with going as far as trick texts, especially if you'd never given out your number to them.
Would be nice to know who it was though I'm sure!

Hi
Did the message state a company name ?

Hi Andy, sorry I`ve only just replied to your post, but I was in work last night...No there was no company name, the line just went on to message but no message was present, just silence, and I could tell that the background noise was definately a call centre or similar. What caught me off guard was that they`ve used a mobile number and sent texts...really sneaky, and the fact that they`ve got my mobile number. It definately wasn`t anyone who knows me, as they know where I work and when I`m at work.
As I mentioned in my initial post, I informed all creditors that I work nights in my letters to them, it`s as if this creditor is checking this fact to see if they can get me at work, because I`m not answering my land line.
I have definately NEVER given my mobile number to ANY creditors at any time.

Been racking my brains to figure out how this creditor has got my mobile number...One of my creditors is associated to my mortgage provider, and I`m not certain that I didn`t give my mobile number when I took out my mortgage...It`s the only possibility I can think of

That would be very against banking code of practice - so do let me know if it happens again and try to find out exactly who they are. I suspect it is a sales call of some description.

Will do Melanie. The only other organisation that have had my mobile number are the AA (that`s car related not booze[:D]),during a car breakdown...I wonder if they are associated to any of my creditors???
Oh well, nothing I can do about it...I`d better get to bed, don`t think I`ll sleep very well mind, way to hot.

Hi Goosed
Have you typed the phone number in to a google search, sometimes that brings up results if it is a company phone or if other people have been called by the same number and written a review, especially if it was just a sales call, at least could put your mind to rest
Hi
I have taken out car insurance with the AA recently and have received many follow up calls trying to sell me something else, could well be to do with that
Regards
Do you have any friends who work in call centre environments? Just holding onto the hope that this is not a creditor or extreme cold calling going on here.
Tried googling the number, nothing...And I don`t have any friends who work in call centres.
I`m convinced it`s someone who works for one of my creditors having got access to my mobile number via association and is seeing if they can catch me out and see if I am actually at work during normal office hours...May sound paranoid, but I`ve never had texts like `em before...No more texts since those two yesterday, either.
