Broke, that is not what the OP said which is why I was asking. She said he didn't want the money back, which I take to mean it could be a gift.

I know the father doesn't want it back but it may not be in the daughter's interest to receive the gift at this time.

Probably best not to speculate until Boris comes back on and tells us if she has managed to sort out anything with the solicitor.
