I have a rather large amount of child support arrears accrued from my time in the US. Can I use an IVA to free myself from this debt? We're talking a 5 figure sum of money (in UK sterling). I do live in the UK (and was born here) now and have done for the last 12 years.

Child support payments are exempt from the bankruptcy regulations here and I believe that to be the case regardless of where they are owed. Certainly within EU countries there can be a transfer of proceedings but regarding the USA I am not sure. You may need to get legal advice as any IP would be obliged to check this out before submitting a proposal.
