I recently signed into an IVA with my partner (23rd July 2018 and our first payment will be due in September). Today HRMC have informed my partner that they didn't take enough tax last year and our therefore now recovering the £1400 debt via PAYE which works out at £130 a month. We rang our IVA people who said we would simply have to repay and try to make cut backs - but this seems wrong to me as we spent a lot of time working out budgets and i'm sure if HRMC paid US £1400 we would have to pay that into the IVA. My tax has been written into the IVA (self employed) so can this not be done with his?
I feel like Payplan our fobbing us off, is there anyway we can complain about this as this is seriously going to effect us.
Speak to them again and see if they will help you. Payplan work to their own agenda which isn't always good.

Unfortunate that this happened so early in the IVA -- perhaps Payplan could agree a delay on the start of regular payments to allow a few months in which to use the money to pay off the HMRC debt. These payments will, of course, need to be added back on at the end.
