Is a home insurance claim classed as a 'windfall' ? As I have a claim that has been accepted, flooded kitchen, and although I don't think it is a windfall, I have suddenly become worried that it would cause problems if I cash the cheque .

I would say that if the money is used for it's intended purpose -- ie repair & replacement, it is not a windfall. However, you IP might have other ideas and you should run it past him or her first.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I would agree with foggy on that it is not a windfall ..I would find it very harsh if your IP tried to say it was.

I made a claim and was able to get a replacement item at no cost to myself.
