We've just been given a charity status for our lost and found pets in our local area. I'm a volunteer scanner have been for nearly 3 years. The lady who runs this group put me forward as one of the trustees which was an honour when we got the charity status, but I was not aware with being in an IVA this would disqualify me.

You need to look at the charities terms n conditions... bankruptcy is a definite no no but iva's are not always the case.
A quiet word with the chairman to explain what an iva is and how it differs from bankruptcy may help.
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt

There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !

The people to check with would be the Charities Commission. As Luluj says, an IVA is different to BR, which is a "no-no", and there might also be mention of it in the charities articles.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
