Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or if the experts can shed some light, this may be more of a vent to be honest...
A year ago, I had to take unpaid leave to keep my new job which I ended up losing in July anyway, at this time I was with vanguard and everything was fine. Vanguard gave me a payment break from April to July, which I have the official letters to confirm and that my IVA will be extended to cover the payments. Vangaurd were then taken over by ebengate, I was told my IP would stay the same and nothing would change. This is not the case, any random person from ebengate deals with my IVA and I have to chase constantly for anything, they didn’t even do a review without me asking as I needed a new phone (which they never got back to me about). All payments have been up to date since I have been back to work since August. Fast forward to now, I need a car on finance, it got declined and finance company were unsure why. Contacted ebengate to be told my account is in arrears, which is not possible. Spoke to another person about it, my payment break was never added onto ebengates system so it looks like I've missed 4 months payments. Nobody from ebengate contacted me about this, but they were quite happy to call me and up my monthly payments? Ebengate are confident the creditors will clear the arreas with no issues within a months time but I'm so worried about how this will now affect me as I can never get a clear answer but they think that's what caused the decline on finance. Could this be it? Every other check came back fine. I can reapply for finance in a months time but this has stressed me beyond belief as ebengate never seem to be proactive and actually help.

Sorry for the very long winded post, just very frustrating having your finances controlled by a company like this.

OK -- first -- most of us get declined for finance as the IVA shows us as insolvent on our credit reference files. Finance companies are not obliged to tell you why and often skirt that issue. They are only obliged to tell you which agency they consulted.

Late, missed or delayed payments to your IVA do not show up on credit reference files. What does show up are defaults on your credit accounts (as well as the IVA itself) and these will remain on file and in view for 6 years from the dates of default ( have a read here: https://www.iva.co.uk/what-does-an-iva- ... dit-record ).

As far as I am aware the Ebenegate call centre is in Mauritius --- they probably don't even know what an IVA is and seem to like making replies up out of thin air ! Your IP will still be Mr Jackson, as far as I understand, and you can still complain to regulators about him -- as he has overall responsibility. Have a look here: vanguard-ebenegate-again-t90492
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Hi Foggy,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I was expecting to get declined too, everything was fine car had been chosen to then be told my application was actually declined.
With regards to be ebengate, I often get transferred to the Mauritius team who never seem to have any idea what they are actually talking about. I am just worried that even after the so called "arrears" are cleared this will have a negative impact.
Thanks for Peter's details, my IP is now always referred to as her or she, I've questioned this many times but never actually get a response as to who my IP actually is but I will definitely contact Peter Jackson.
