Well here I am waiting for Green Flag, I am supposed to be at work! My engine blew up. Quite literally bang with a loud grinding sound and all the warning lights came on at once! The guy on the phone said he thinks it sounds like my timing chain failed and the damage could be irreparable. Please feel sorry for me cos I am feeling pretty darn miserable :(
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

Not good! So sorry to hear that.

If it is your timing chain then it will be very expensive.

Well I made it to work in my wife’s car. Green flag were really good, took me and my car back home and they will come in the morning and take it my local garage for assessment. He also said it is not looking good he thinks the timing chain has snapped and that my valves or cam or something are most likely busted which is terminal for the engine. Well over a thousand pounds to fix (by fix he means getting a used engine from a read end crash and having it fitted). Our car maintenance fund is sitting at £200!! Anyway I will find out tomorrow what the damage and costs are and we will work out something. I have to drive home at 6am so that my wife has the car to come to work. Fortunataly I am off for the next 4 nights. Ah well the first big hiccup for 3 years. I am trying to be philosophical about it [B)]
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

We had a timing chain go once - fortunately it was what they call a 'safe' engine, so it didn't ruin it.

Once you get a price for repair, speak to Mel and I'm sure she will sort out a payment break so you can get it repaired.

My engine is totally destroyed!! Vauxhall gave me the option of a new engine (£3000 or so ), an old engine taken from a rear ended vehicle ( £1000 plus £500 fitting for an engine with 47,000 miles, they could not guarantee the mileage but would give me a 3 months warranty on engine only). The car is valued at £1,700 (in good condition lol) I set the ball rolling yesterday with Melanie’s team and I am sure we will work out something. People on here have faced much worse situations than mine (redundancy, illness, bereavement etc) we are both still healthy and working full time. Bummer though [:(]
My thanks to Melanie and her team :)

Our Vectra had the waterpump go and that cost us the car.Still we now have the best car a VW Golf mark 3 really love it. Not quite as good as my car though,a Peugeot 205 CTI, fantastic in the nice weather with the roof down.
