Over the last few months I have had a couple of changes, met someone and things are going really well. He knows about my IVA and isn't phased by it, in fact when we got talking he has been through a debt problem and similar resolution himself in the past which really eased my worry about telling him. I foresee this having a possible outcome of him moving in with me - he's currently an hours drive away. From an IVA perspective what is likely to happen next? I am with StepChange. My thoughts are that they could only expect him to pay up to a maximum of half towards all the household bills. If he earns more than I do, they can't expect him to pay more than half can they?

You can always put him down as a lodger paying rent at the moment.

His income would only be taken into account to ensure he paid his share of the household bills.

The lodge option is another way to look at it but this would still have to be declared as income.

Thanks both, never considered that idea, but fundamentally it *is* what he would be.

Without details otherwise they would assume a 50/5- split of expenses if he was living there as a "partner" --- they are not entitled to delve into his finances.
But, as already mentioned, the "lodger" option is easier and cleaner. His contribution towards "rent" would be counted as income. He will, of course, have his own cupboard and portion of the fridge and will deal with his own meals and such like. You will not be claiming any extra expenses due to his occupation.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
