My husband and I are in the process of applying for a joint IVA and have followed all the usual guidelines of contacting creditors, offering pro-rata payments and keeping all creditors up to date. Most of them have been ok with the exception of Nationwide. Both hubby and I owe money to NW credit card, both of us have contacted them and offered PR payments. I however am being constantly hounded by them and have just spent 20 minutes on the phone repeating exactly what I told them last week.
The person I spoke to was asking me to make extra payments, which I declined as I don't have it. I told him that this would be treating NW as a preferential creditor which I though was against the law. He then told me I had to get on to my IVA proposer to gee them up and I told him that I am in constant touch with them but I wasn't in a position to call the shots with the people who are trying to help me. He also claimed that most IVA's are ready to propose after 2 weeks. Is this true? What is the usual amount of time to put forward an IVA proposal?
I asked this person why I was being hounded yet my husband had just had the one call. He stated that they weren't showing favouritism, and I told him that I didn't consider it favouritism but victimisation.
Out of all our creditors this is the only problem I have encountered. Does anyone else have a similar tale or any sound advice to stop me going mad????
Hi sounds like they're using scaremonger tactics to get you to pay some money over. Just be firm but polite and you're doing the right thing with pro-rata payments. All IVA's take varying amounts of time as they're Individual and I'm sure yours will be ready for you to look over very soon. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I had a prepared script saying I am in the process of setting up an IVA and the company I am with and their phone number requesting they contacted them for any further information. I would then put the phone down. Another thong I did for a while was to let all calls go to answer machine so when I was feeling over whealmed I didn't have to deal with the calls.
I found that as soon as the IVA was set up the calls stopped and the letters, although this may make a few weeks for the informstion to filter through and then all you need to say is I am in an IVA from whatever date and put the phone down or if you have call monitor ignore.

Nothing you can buy feels as good as not being in debt.
I'm sure it won't be long now Dumbeh and you'll be looking back but feeling safe in the knowledge you're protected within an IVA. Mine took a while to set up but now about to make payment 30 xx

Ignore what the call centre morons tell you, they are trying to bully you into paying so they can earn commission.
You can refuse to answer the security questions when they call - they can't continue if you don't confirm your details.
