Well I have been seeing this lass for nearly 3 months now and things are going great. However, something rather coincidental happened.....

I had been wondering when to bring up the subject of being in an IVA, what it entailed for me financially and how it all happened, not something you want to do right away for fear of scaring someone off lol. I think she just thought I was a low earner or tight [:D]

Well we were cuddling one day and just talking rubbish like you do and I'm not sure how the subject of money came up but she started talking about debt and lo and behold she is in debt far worse than I was and had been fretting about telling ME for fear of scaring me off, how ironic!

She is in a DMP but she feels hopeless as has no idea when it'll end, the company never give her info, even when she asks for it and when payment doesn't go through to her creditors they ring her and hassle her, makes me wonder how the Agent can then have the cheek to charge a massive fee.....it all seems dodgy to me and I feel like she has been screwed over, she got in a right state yesterday over it and it really, really annoyed me how she has been treated.

So I've got some of the basic facts from her and I am going to look at all her paperwork on Thursday when I go to hers for tea. She also tried for an IVA but it was knocked back. Then I'm gonna post something in the questions section about it after I have come up with what I think and see what can be done for her.

I just can't get over how random it is that 2 people in massive debt find each other lol. Maybe there are lots more people in massive debt than we think out there.......

It sounds as though it's meant to be!

I'm glad that you can help her, and that you'll be able to support each other x

I hope so [:D]

She must have felt so alone as she has had no one to confide in, no one who really understood....

I'm sure your efforts will pay off and you know we'll all advise/support all we can.

You said her application for an IVA was rejected..do you know why?

She seemed a bit vague as it was 2 years ago. From what she could recall it was knocked by Northern Rock because they felt she could pay it back quicker I think.

But that is rubbish, she has been paying £600 a month for 2 years and it seems like her debt has only gone down by about 12%, so on this basis she'll take another 16 years to pay it off and she'll end up paying back double what she owed.

I find it mad if this is the case as it seems half the money is going on fees and possibly interest although she was told it was all frozen. It's a mess and her Debt Management Company seem totally useless to me and on the data I have downright dishonest.

But I'll reserve full judgement until I see the paperwork, totals owed, total paid etc.

I'll then do a BIG post no doubt and look for advice.

At least you know you won't be lead down the same path as you were with your short term wife.
Hope it goes well for you.
