Been in touch with company called Valour Financial and gentleman says I cannot have an IVA because one of my debts is in joint names with myself and the wife. But my wife doesn't work. Is this true and does anybody know anything about Valour. They are recommending a DMP[:(!]

Hi Pugwash - welcome to the forum. No this isn't right but without knowing the full details we can't advise on what is.

Best thing to do is to contact a couple more companies to get free balanced advice and we can help you with finding a way forward.

I agree with Tina. This advice does not ring trueas each case is treated as an indivual. Seek another opinion as an IVA may be an option.

Hello Pugwash,

Having had a quick look at their website I'd guess that this company is a Debt Management Plan rather than an IVA operator.

As the others have said it's probably best to get more advice elsewhere.

The main headline on the website is interesting. You can rely on them for "Politness" apparently. That's great because I hate it when people are impolit.

It is even worse Andrew if they are 'rud'.

Still on the subject of poor spelling on websites, I was looking at the website of a local tattooist as I want another one. It really put me off though when one of the sections was headed 'piersing'! I wouldn't want to take the chance if I wanted any text as part of the tattoo!

What a load of tosh - I have lots of clients who have similar circumstances to you and an IVA is working perfectly well. Find a good IP who is used to dealing with this sort of thing and I am sure you will be fine.

Take advice from some other companies - have a look on www.iva.com for reviews of companies, or contact the experts who post on the forum. Their contact details are in their profiles.

Good luck x

Totally agree with all of the comments.

Visit the link that Skippy posted or click on the experts link on the lefthand side of the page. You could do a lot worse than give one or two of them a ring.

Don't be put off by your first exerience.

All good advice above and the link is a great starting point, talk to 2 or 3 companies to get free, impartial case specific advice.

All the best x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
