My husband has recently found out that he won't be paid for September due to a new teaching pay scheme in adult education. Instead of requesting an IVA payment break, he is thinking about working just enough overtime from now till then to make up for the future missed pay. My understanding is that 50% of any overtime disposable monies is to be paid into the IVA. I was wondering if this condition would apply in this case as the earned extra is NOT disposable, but is aimed at covering his financial commitments, including our IVA payment, in October. Any insight you might have will be most welcome.
I think personally that is very sensible forward thinking. I would definitely contact your IP with that proposal and hopefully they will see it's to cover a months missed income.
I teach in adult education, is it a local pay scheme being altered as I've not heard and as I can't earn extra it would definitely leave me very short? x

I would speak to the IP and see if they can account for the overtime as it is going towards an IVA payment you would otherwise be unable to make. It would be a shame if the IP does not recognise the fact you are working overtime in dedication to meet payments and still try to make him earn 200% of what he needs just to cover the 50% clause.
Give your IP a call see if they can help you out with a short term arrangement for the overtime to cover that one payment. Providing a letter from his work including the fact no wage in September would be good to.
I will try and I would have sooner if it weren't for the fact that I am not allowed to talk to my IP direct, and all I can do is hope that the customer advisor I get through to is patient and friendly enough to hear me out and offer advice (not to be taken for granted with those guys[xx(]
Thanks for your reply, will let you all know after the dreaded call.

That's exactly what I did earlier today. I've emailed my 2 IPs (for the first time)hoping that one of them at least would get back to me. Not that I have been given their contact details by the company but a member of this forum kindly posted them to me on here. I will let you know the outcome.. soon ... I hope.
Oh yes Julie, that is the painful truth I'm afraid. Not only am I never put through to my 2 IPs but quite often my queries are met with frustrating reluctance and a very dismissing attitude along the lines of "there's no point in asking questions prior to your annual review" or "It's hard to say at this stage"! I've already taken part in a whole discussion about this on this very forum, and to be fair a representative of the company I'm dealing with (BE) posted a request on here for me to email them with my ref number and contact details so as to review my file, which I haven't done as the message took me by surprise, and I'm worried in case I'm blacklisted as a result of voicing out my grievances [:(]
I don't think you'll be thought any the less of for posting your grievance. I think it would be good to contact them as they would genuinely want to help you personally. The forum is a good way of communication but everything is case specific so I would go ahead and send the email. You will then get your case specific advice.
Or you could wait until you get a response from the emails you've sent tonight?
Is it a local funding situation that is going to affect a months pay? x

I agree with Lesley, they won't be bothered about the fact that you posted on here. I would certainly contact them at the address they provided.

no it's just a new pay scheme whereby tutors are paid 10 months out of 12, which is a pain really when it comes to explaining it to IVA supervisors. The advisor who set up our proposal worked out my husband's monthly net income as a monthly average, ie his annual pay spread over 12 months instead of 10. But I realised 3 months down the line that no where in our proposal is there a reference to that. So I am worried in case the monthly extra above the stated income in our proposal is considered as overtime at our review. However, I have explained all this in my email to the 2 IPs, and I'm waiting to hear from them. Alternatively, I shall email the address posted to me on here as a member of this forum has done it and was very pleasantly surprised by the very considerate, friendly and helpful treatment he got as a result. [:I]
I just got worried as I'm an adult education tutor and teach IT to post 16's. Didn't want to be without a months wages, we get paid monthly (12 months).
Hope it's sorted very soon. x

I have emailed my IP direct for the first time, and I even mentioned this forum. And man oh man, the response I got was phenomenally friendly and EXTREMELY helpful and supportive[:I]
I have been reassured that the extra my husband will earn in view of covering any months he's not paid for will not be considered as overtime, and that if I have any concerns or if I'm unhappy with any treatment I get from any member of staff, I should voice it out and that he'll be more than happy to step in and help. Seriously, his email was a most pleasant surprise and has lifted a massive weight off my shoulders[:I]
