I am in a proposal stage of iva, however I have been asked to provide proof of rent. I don't have a tenancy agreement, I pay £115 a week in cash. I have asked my landlady for a letter confirming this but she is unwilling and keeps quizzing me what it's for. I eventually told her and she started to say people are going to start knocking on the door. I am desperate in need of help with my debts, is there any other way or options please?

You are going to have to ask your prospective IP what they will accept as proof. Your landlady is acting illegally and I wonder how secure, if at all, your tenancy actually is (as an aside -- not in the remit of this forum).

Everything depends on your level of debt and other circumstances, but you could try a debt management plan instead -- although they will probably still wish to see some evidence.

I agree with foggy re your landlady and acting illegally. A tenancy agreement should be in place.
Is it a room in a house you rent and does your landlady live in the property herself? My suspicious mind is steering towards a whole host of possible fraudulent activity by your landlady, which is as I said purely my suspicions.
If she will not provide a letter then not sure how you can evidence this as you are using cash .... possibly keep a tracker of all payments and dates paid so you can evidence it that way. Withdraw the cash from your account seperately each week so it appears on your bank statement as a regular withdrawal possibly.

I suspect the landlady is not declaring the rental income to HMRC and paying tax on it.

Perhaps you wil have to tell her you can only make the payments by transfer from now on so that you have a trail of evidence but I suspect she won't like this.

Without a tenancy agreement she could try and evict you without any notice.

You should really be reporting her to the authorities but I suspect you want to carry on living there...

If I were you, I would start looking at other accommodation while your credit record isn't too bad.
