Our IVA started in July 2012, direct debit payments taken for five years, then nothing. After a year, we contacted IVA provider and we were unable to remortgage (only owned 50% of our property). We were then told needed to make a further years payments, so paid a full year amount in July 2019 to finish IVA. This meant our IVA took 7 years to complete.
Now credit files are clear, wanting to apply to remortgage. Have equity in house and want to buy parents out and borrow extra to extend property.
Been told by our current mortgage provider (Halifax) that cannot do so until 6 years AFTER last payment. This is ludicrous, we have good salaries have no adverse credit, kept up-to-date with all IVA and mortgage payments.
Please can someone suggest a specialist lender we can use. Want this nightmare to be over, but still it continues to cause us headaches.
And as for our IVA provider Grant Thornton/Aperture - only last month had to contact them about taking a restriction off property that hadn't been removed. Even though we had completion certificate end of 2019! Nothing but problems with them throughout this whole process.
Any help would be much appreciated.
If you check the IVA experts on the left hand side of the page, you may find help. I am not allowed to recommend anyone.

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

Lenders do vary in their post IVA criteria, some lending 3 or 6 years post completion, some never, and others, will lend as soon as your credit file clears up.
Many forum members have had success stories and I am sure some will come along and share their experiences.

Hi Michelle. Ludicrous it is, and we've spent years trying to convince lenders of that very fact! To prove the fact, we won an award with one particular lender for having the lowest level of clients in arrears with them...and the vast majority of them were customers in exactly your position. The good news is that, based on what you say (and assuming that there's nothing else of concern) it probably wouldn't be necessary to recommend a specialist lender as you may well qualify for a very competitive 'high street' deal. There may be a little preparatory work to be done to make sure you fit the criteria BEFORE making an application which is equally crucial.
Specialist Mortgage Advisers. Highly Commended at the British Mortgage Awards.
Shaun makes a point that I completely missed --- people do not always require a specialist lender (which often cost more) but, more often, a specialist broker who could well have 'sympathetic' (or simply more open) lenders in his stable.

I can personally vouch for Zebra - Ryan one of the forum experts has helped us gain mortgages and remortgage in the last 10 years. If look for his profile on the experts page his contact details will be there.
