Since 2014 most Lenders now require a mortgage to be repaid prior to your 70th birthday. 40 is almost the norm these days according to the press (!) for buying a House for the first time so I wouldn't worry too much.

Please don't feel pressurised into doing something that may not be in your best interests. If your existing Mortgage is with a High Street Lender then re-mortgaging now to a specialist Lender who may lend would lead to you paying a higher interest rate on your whole mortgage. Hi Joanne,

As Foggy says it is highly unlikely unfortunately that you would be able to re-mortgage until the IVA has Completed.

Hi Norman,

Have you had a chat with a Mortgage Broker to see if you are able to raise money against your property to repay the debts rather than entering into an IVA?

Hi Helen,

As has already been mentioned definitely avoid the payday loan if possible - going forward many Mortgage Lenders will now decline an application if they see that you have taken a payday loan in the recent past.

If you are married many Lenders these days will only lend in both names to married couples so it would reduce the number of Lenders willing to offer a Mortgage.
