Totally know what you went through - exactly the same for me. I joined this forum towards the end of my IVA and wish I had been on sooner. With the advice on here I would have stood up for myself more. The worse part for me was when I claimed back near £6k in PPI, all of which I did myself so DFD go...

A few of us have had problems with Tax credits. I was put on higher payments because of tax credits despite the fact I told them I would lost them in 18 months. When I asked for a decrease a couple of years later, I was told that I could only do this if I capped the decrease on the end of the IVA an...

I can only add my own experience - I seem to remember mine took around 8 months to come in the post. This was in 2014 though, hopefully it's a bit quicker now.

I would suggest its the creditors who have the last say? the IVA firm at literally recovery agents who represent the people you owe money too, from my experience they are far more sympathetic. You should probably have told your IVA company your intention so they could meet with the creditors on your...

I applied for a starter Barclaycard around 1 year after my IVA was complete and tended to use it small - around £20 - £50 in a month and paid it off. I sometimes deliberately didn't pay it all off so they could charge me a small amount of interest before I settled up. My credit limit went up over th...

Totally echo your words. My own IVA was the best thing I ever did. Only thing I would tall anyone is about a level of consistency throughout it and not make mistakes that I did - from my own experience, I had a marriage break up, moved house three times and had tax credits stop in the middle of it, ...

My parents where going to lend + contribute - to me the money to pay my IVA off 5 months before the last payment to the exact amount I would have paid during that time (£1.500 I think) but I never preceded when I was told that. although I would have paid the money early - my last payment date would ...

You may be able to add your laundry bill too into your expense's? Those big white suits are not cheap to keep clean.

I remember the early part of my own IVA application. The amount increasing from £260 to £295 a month through various parts been rejected from the creditors themselves. It seems normal practice for them to tweak a few things - they are a business at the end of the day but it should be within what you...

I heard a story once of a guy desperately needing some money, and went to a local unemployment place (he was actually working) and applied for a budgeting loan or grant (I cant remember which) for a couple of hundred quid and got it !! I know little about this unfortunately but wanted to share my ex...

A personalised card from Moonpig with your own heart - felt words would go a long way too for your first Christmas together, and not very expensive but the right words are priceless.. But as Foggy suggested, leave some idea's for Valentines day haha, and whisk her away somewhere nice on the annivers...
