This seems a very complicated way of doing things? the whole selling point of an IVA is simplicity, no letters and no phone calls. I'd rather just pay my council tax the normal way, personally.

I know someone, a few years back, who was involved in a car accident and received £4k for serious whiplash injury, I mean months of physiotherapy, it was that bad.. Would seem unfair in that type of situation to hand over monies that were from suffering? Was there any suffering in your case?

I found those free sights were they give you positives and negatives, a great help in getting my credit rating up. I got a credit card with a small limit and slowly built it up. I hardly use it though, once bitten and all that.

Well done at getting to the end after al that but, what an awful experience you have been through. I remember in 2008 seeing an ad in the paper for IVA's saying "debt free in 5 years with 80% written off" and "one simple payment with no phone calls" certainly leads us to a false ...

You did very well to get a credit card whilst in an IVA. I managed to get one after I received my certificate but, a small limit - which they have put up a few times and it now stands at £2k, thankfully I rarely use it, I cant face IVA number 2.

What an awful situation, if you call them again I understand you can ask to speak to someone higher up? a supervisor maybe? Hang in there and try to get some clarity.

Topic: Is 6 years the max for an iva?

My 5 year IVA was extended from 60 months to 71 by my IP, when I had some temporary other payments to make that came as a shock (long story) they capped the payments onto the end. I don't own my home so no extensions because of equity issues. While in my last few months of my IVA, my IP (DFD) rang a...

Oddly enough exactly the same happened to me. I claimed all my own PPI back as I didn't like the thought of some middle person company taking a large cut. Plus my way of thinking - the extra cash may have helped complete my IVA sooner (which didn't happen) I received four lots of PPI, for the amount...

If you rent your home and don't own it, your IVA is the fixed term and payments providing you have no windfalls or change in circumstances, if you own your home, you wont likely be able to release equity so chances are you will pay for an extra 12 months. This was the case when I was on in IVA anywa...

I'd imagine you'd have to do something majorly fraudulent, whilst in the IVA, for anything to happen. The creditors are probably glad to see the back of us - once we're off their books.

If your not paying that will at least give you time to prepare for your IVA? I would try to get them to put a note on your file? Not sure about a token payment - this would surely be dead money as this amount you pay up until the commencement of the IVA wont have any reflection on your monthly payme...

Its very hard losing a windfall when you have been living frugal whilst on an IVA. It happened to me when I had to have £6k over. Money I never expected. The long term picture is that I had debt freedom at the end of it all. I do think that you should be able to keep some of a windfall - there is a ...

Would any be able to advice on this scenario - Would you be liable for the lost interest (if you had a windfall) for the £25.000 that is currently owed or would it revert back to the original £40k? if switched to from the DMP to an IVA Obviously you can pay more than the amount you owe on an IVA as ...

Totally know what you went through - exactly the same for me. I joined this forum towards the end of my IVA and wish I had been on sooner. With the advice on here I would have stood up for myself more. The worse part for me was when I claimed back near £6k in PPI, all of which I did myself so DFD go...

A few of us have had problems with Tax credits. I was put on higher payments because of tax credits despite the fact I told them I would lost them in 18 months. When I asked for a decrease a couple of years later, I was told that I could only do this if I capped the decrease on the end of the IVA an...
