Hi When we started our IVA last year my son was at college. Our creditors put in a modification that when son started work he would be expected to contribute to the household. Does anyone know how much is expected. At the moment we are allowed £80 pm for his keep in the I&E.

Hi Carole,

I don't really know the answer to that one. I imagine that it will revolve around how much he earns firstly.

One of the experts can probably advise further.

Hi
It is a difficult one
My two older children contribute 130 pounds per month each and they both work full time.
Whatever he pays you I guess will just go straight on your IVA payments

some of what ever he pays must be for food etc so we must be able to keep the first £80 as that is what we are allowed for food in the I&E

Hi
Is the £80 already in the income and expenditure ? If so I don't think you will be able to keep the first 80 pounds as any extra income will just increase your disposable income. You my be able to increase some other expenses though. Have a chat with your IP

My son payed 120 pound per month. We were advised to take this as rent for his room only and to ask him to pay his own food bills if not this would impact on our i and e for food. All of the rent money was taken as our income. Hope this helps.
Iva finished !

The £80 is already in the I&E so by what you are saying what ever he pays will be extra income and the IVA will want it all but we will still have the £80 to feed him in our I&E is that how it works.

Adult working children should pay their own way at home, but some of them do earn very low wages so this should be taken into account. I expect to see the children's allowances drop right out when children leave school and start to earn, with a modest contribution being made towards the cost of renting a room. Generally I work this out with my clients on grounds of affordability, unless directed otherwise by creditors' specific modifications.
