My wife and I had a joint account with HSBC. An IVA is in just her name was agreed upon, which all parties signed up to including HSBC. HSBC then contacted me, stating that this as it was a joint account I had full liability or the overdraft of £2000 ,this had to be paid within 14 days , I informed them that we could not do this and continue to pay the IVA amount and support a family of four. They replied that they were not prepared to give me any more time and froze the account within 14 days. Despite me offering to pay back the full amount of the overdraft. I wrote a letter of appeal to the bank whom stated that they would carry out an internal investigation, This resulted in them replying stating that they feel that I had been treated fairly and this closure was justified. I am now on the Individual Insolvency Register, needless to say this has had a terrible effect on my credit rating. This has meant that we are unable to get any loans at reasonable rates and are struggling to survive from day to day.
I would be grateful if you could advise me as to how I can appeal against this as as HSBC have been unhelpful to say the least and are not prepared to engage in conversation with me.

Many Thanks

Unfortunately HSBC are notorious for closing accounts and you will be liable to make payments for the overdraft. Because you are financially linked your credit rating will not be good.

I don't think you should be on the register at all as you, personally are not insolvent. Do you know anyone who could gift you the money to pay off the overdraft?

I have checked the register and you are not on there. I have also removed your name from your post to preserve anonimity.

When did the IVA start?
