I have now nearly reached the halfway point in my IVA and i have to admit that even though i am still paying my way it has been a real mindbender with frustration and counting down days and months until you are debt free.
Year 1 - I guess that you are relieved to have been accepted into an IVA and are looking forward to now having some money in you pocket and finally finding a solution to paying off the Debt.

Year 2 - This is when the Frustration sets in as you are now paying the IVA and are just counting Months and Days.

Year 3 - Seems like the Wilderness Years as you just want the IVA over with but have 2 years left.

Year 4 - Maybe light will begin to appear for the end of a Long Tunnel.

I don't want this to be off putting or depressing but do any other IVA 'ers feel the same as me or am i the only one as i am glad that i am Chiselling Away but i feel like my life is on Hold.
Things havent been too bad for me but i have had a couple of months where i have had to pay a minimal into my IVA due to things needing replacing like the Fridge Freezer and Car Repairs.

I'm fortunate that we haven't needed to take a break or lower our payments so far. I'm almost halfway through with the prospect of a further twelve months if no equity release.

I'm quite happy plodding along and don't feel as though my life is on hold.

I have just completed paying my IVA and like Jan said we did not have to miss a payment or reduce our payments. Although I was glad and relived to get my debts sorted I did find times when there was more month than money hard espicially as I esrn good salary but never hsd the enjoyment of it. I must say the last year I was coiunting down the months. There is an end to it and I do not regret my IVA at all and I am now looking foward to now having some extra money to just to breathe and not worry about the unexpected bill/break down.

kallis i havent had any payment breaks but i have had a couple of months where i have paid in slightly less so as to have paid in at least 0.75% of my payment, but i have been paying a £10 extra on top of my payments every month.
I find the thing that frustrates me the most is when people all start talking about their holidays and i am stuck paying this IVA

Andrew, I`m only at the drafting a proposal stage. I think you summed it up quite succintly when you said it seems like your life is on hold. But at least you will have a new start when you complete your IVA, and that is something to look forward to with real zest. Just think of all that money that will be YOURS, the things you`ll be able to do. You will also be great at budgeting, have an eye for a bargain and be DEBTFREE.
If my proposal is accepted I`m going to think of the IVA as a 5 or 6 year loan, and that will be shorter than the timespan I`ve been paying some of my cards and seemingly getting nowhere...
Halfway there, you`ve done so well. I hope to see the day when I can say I`m half way there.

Good Luck Goosed with your IVA proposal.
Believe me it will be the best thing you have done to sort out your Debts and you will be better for it asnd it will discipline you to Budget but when you get to the Middle Years you really start to feel it as you are literally counting the months.

I was lucky enough to be able to go on holiday last year courtesy of my daughter but I doubt I'll be going on holiday again anytime soon.

Whilst I am envious of people I know who can go on holidays, I do wonder how many of my colleagues are relying on the plastic to pay for it, and how many of them might wind up in trouble?

Thanks to all the Replies,
It only seems like yesterday that i started this Long Road but seems like a lifetime away to completion.
In reality at least i have my health, my family and all the Material things i could ever need, but most importantly in this day and age at least i have a good job so maybe i should way up the positives instead of the negatives

Andrew I do know how you feel and have the same feelings sometimes, woe is me days I call them. Sometimes I'm positive, but the next day I can be negative.

Holidays were a thing of the past for us and now MIL has put it in our head she may treat us to one, I want it and I want it NOW! Having said that no mention of it so who knows if it will materialise, I live in hope.

I find the forum helps me to get through my negative days. I did have arrears from the onset of my IVA right through until 2 or 3 months ago, so the extra is making it more bearable for us.

x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Interesting you mention how many people rely on plastic...I wonder just how many people are in the same boat as us lot...My supervisor told me that he`s in a DMP last night and I know two other lads from work have been in DMP`s for some time, one of my friends is also in serious debt trouble and is taking advice...and these are just instances of peole I actually know.
