I have discovered our village idiot, and he works for GE Money Debt Collection Dept:

I have just taken a call from GE Money, and this buffoon, sorry representative seems to think he knows more about IVA's that our IP Melanie Giles.
He stated that seeing this particular debt is a buy now pay later it would be exempt from the IVA process, plus the fact we have failed to make any payments towards this agreement would mean a NO vote from GE money.

He then asked "What do you think about that". After I had picked myself up off the floor from laughter, and gave him Melanies contact details, he proceeded to ask me what our intentions were once the IVA was rejected - not if!!

I told him BR, and you will get sweet FA (being polite on this forum), and slammed the phone down.

It must be a prerequisite of GE Money, that their debt chasers have restricted oxygen supply to their grey matter............roll on the 25th June.

We went through a similar conversation with Littlwoods / Barclaycard when we were in the DMP I ended up putting the phone down cos the woman was getting quite nasty when I wouldn't give her a payment.

Some of them don't have the full facts of an IVA or any other debt remedy knowledge before they're let loose on the phone and others use intimidating facts to try and scare some and to be fair some people don't know their facts straight and cave in to pressure and end up making a payment. Thank goodness for the forum. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

They are pretty useless aren't they? However, they can be bullying and/or intimidating. Best to just put the phone down on them when it gets like that.

You did well there SF.

A number of people who work in the debt collection industry have been put forward to study for the DRF CertDR debt advice qualification.

It would seem that there are some institutions who appreciate that improving knowledge in this area would bring benefit to their business and clients.

Hopefully more will follow.

Thankfully the people that actually vote for that creditor - my former colleagues at PricewaterhouseCoopers - have rather more commercial sense.

This character I spoke to this afternoon was certainly bereft of any sense.
He was trying to sound intimidating during our conversation, but I would like to think I met him at every level.
Some form of structured training program relating to debt and the solutions available would certainly be of benefit for all concerned.

They're only after commission - the more people they can bully into making payments, the more they get paid.

Don't know how they sleep at night.

Hi Andy,

16.92% is their claim on the overall debt.

Hi
Well they do not have a deciding vote. As Melanie states the people actually making the decision for GE will be far more reasonable and commercially minded than the person you spoke to
