I am on the closure process of my IVA. I received an e-mail and a call and was asked to give my bank account details to them so they can give me a refund as I overpaid into my IVA. Is this a normal process? Surely they can just send me a cheque in my name? Uncomfortable with giving out my bank account details. Please advise. Thank you.

How do you pay them ? Surely they already have your account details from there.

In this day and age cheques are becoming a thing of the past, so, if you do give them the details do check with them first ... on a number from their website (so you are confident that it IS them).

My last and only payment to Jarvis(before they rebranded to debt movement) was by direct debit. I since cancelled it obviously so this is why I am not comfortable about the idea. I did check the telephone number on their website and it matches. I got another call by the same person asking for my details because apparently they work from home and they can't issue cheques and no one will sign etc. She doesn't know how much my refund is as well. This is supposed to be a very important step for closure of my IVA which is maybe true but giving refunds to customers may not be their priority. She can't tell me what's going to happen after I have the refund, the next thing that will happen etc. I maybe worrying unnecessarily but I just want to be sure.

My IVA IS WITH DEBT MOVEMENT UK LTD. I AM NOW ON THE CLOSURE PROCESS. LAST PAID IN OCTOBER 2020. I WAS IN CONSTANT COMMUNICATION WITH THEM AND TODAY I WAS CALLED THAT I HAVE OVERPAID INTO MY IVA AND I HAVE A REFUND. THEY ARE ASKING FOR MY SORT CODE AND ACCOUNT NUMBER. I AM UNWILLING TO DIVULGE THIS INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE OR EMAIL AND ASKED THEM SURELY IF I HAD A REFUND, THEY CAN MAKE A CHEQUE TO MY NAME? MT CASE IS ON HOLD DUE TO THIS MISSING INFORMATION ACCORDINGLY. HOW DO I MOVE FORWARD? MY WORRY IS THEY MIGHT GET MONEY OUT OF MY BANK FOR SURPRISE FEES AND ALL. PLEASE ADVISE. THANK YOU

Hi Tophee23, we understand how giving out your banking details over the phone or via email may cause you concern. However, once you cancel your direct debit with us, your banking details gets removed from our system therefore we would no longer have this information in our records. Furthermore, we do not take unauthorized funds out of our clients bank accounts. Every payment we receive is consensual and paid directly from clients themselves. In your case, your banking details would be used only to direct deposit your refund.
Please may you email our Client Relations Team at clientservices@debtmovement.co.uk if you wish to further discuss your query or if you have any other questions.
